Manchester City is currently experiencing significant challenges due to injuries. While Pep Guardiola typically rotates his squad, a consistent core of players, including Rodri and Kevin de Bruyne, usually featured in most matches. All football clubs encounter periods of significant injuries, as exemplified by Newcastle last season and Brentford, which had 10 players sidelined. Such situations can hinder a team’s ability to perform optimally. Despite losing three consecutive games, this situation is not considered an “overall crisis” for Manchester City. The perception of a crisis is amplified by their recent losses and Liverpool’s near-perfect start, which has kept City from the top of the league table. This current form deviates from the usual performance expected from Guardiola’s squad. The manager is compelled to select players based on availability rather than assembling the most effective team for each fixture, which is disrupting their seasonal momentum. The intermittent availability of players, with some returning for a week only to be sidelined again for two, makes it challenging to ascertain individual player form at this point in the season, as many have lacked consistent playing time. While Manchester City possesses the capacity to reverse their fortunes, this task will be arduous. Opposing teams are likely to capitalize on City’s current vulnerability, viewing it as an advantageous period to compete against them. Despite remaining a strong team, their current performance does not represent the peak form observed in recent years. These observations were shared by Nedum Onuoha in an interview with Katie Stafford of BBC Sport.
