For the second time in a year, Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs has been fined and banned by the Football Association, receiving a two-match stadium ban and a £7,000 fine for misconduct. The charge against Hobbs stemmed from an incident that occurred after the 2-1 loss to Manchester City on Sunday, October 20. Wolves expressed dissatisfaction that John Stones’ injury-time winner was permitted, as referee Chris Kavanagh awarded the defender’s header despite its initial disallowance due to Bernardo Silva being in an offside position. Hobbs acknowledged the FA charge, which claimed he had behaved improperly and/or directed abusive language towards match official/s near the tunnel area following the conclusion of the game. This marks the second instance in under a year that Hobbs has been found culpable of misconduct. In November 2023, the 44-year-old received a one-game stadium suspension and was ordered to pay £4,000, having admitted to using improper and/or abusive and/or insulting language towards a match official after Newcastle were awarded a controversial penalty in a 2-2 draw at Molineux.
