Boston United has announced the appointment of Graham Coughlan, a former manager for Newport County and Bristol Rovers, as their new manager. His 20-month tenure as boss at Newport County was the longest he has spent at the helm of a club. The 50-year-old assumes leadership of the Pilgrims, who are currently positioned second from bottom in the National League table. The Irishman Coughlan steps in as the permanent successor to Ian Culverhouse, the 60-year-old promotion-winning manager who was dismissed just 16 games into the team’s return to the fifth tier. Boston United stated their decision to bring in the former Plymouth Argyle and Sheffield Wednesday defender, who has dedicated a significant portion of his coaching career to the English Football League, “as they seek to retain their National League status”. Coughlan, who also previously managed Mansfield Town and served as a development coach at Sheffield United, most recently held the managerial position at Newport in League Two. His 20-month spell with the Welsh club concluded in June. Coughlan commenced his duties immediately, and his inaugural match in charge of the Pilgrims will be Saturday’s home fixture against Braintree Town, held at the Jakemans Community Stadium.
