The annual sound and light spectacle, presented on, within, and around a steam train, has returned. This event, named Steam Illuminations, operates along The Watercress Line in Hampshire, connecting Alresford and Alton. It utilizes 14,000 individual LED lights to create its vibrant, kaleidoscopic display. Simon Horn, the creative director, who has a background in designing light shows for pop concerts, indicated that work on this festive extravaganza commenced in July. He informed the BBC, “I look forward to it every year, it really is a dream come true.” The show incorporates colorful lights in flashing patterns, also facilitated by LED wristbands, alongside neon-colored views of the surrounding scenery. Josh Payne, a volunteer who first visited the line as a guest in 2021, stated: “I loved it so much I thought I’d email the guys here and ask if I could come and help out.” He further remarked, “It’s my two favourite things – steam trains, and lights and electronics.” Steam Illuminations is scheduled to run until 4 January.
