Underwater search teams are set to participate in an extensive operation to locate a teenager who disappeared amidst frigid conditions on the Isle of Lewis during the previous week. Aleksandr Benga, aged 16, was observed for the last time close to a water wheel within the grounds of Lews Castle in Stornoway around 08:45 on Monday, November 18. An investigation commenced and has, to date, engaged 50 individuals, comprising specialized police personnel, mountain rescue volunteers, and search and rescue canines. Law enforcement officials have also been halting motorists to inquire about any sightings of the adolescent. Jane MacKenzie, the area commander, issued a plea to the public, requesting them to examine dashcam footage and private CCTV for any visual evidence of Aleksandr. Speaking to BBC Naidheachdan, she stated: “We are very concerned for Aleksandr given the weather conditions over the last week, especially out in the open.” She further expressed: “Hopefully he has sought shelter somewhere.” An extensive geographical region is being scoured, encompassing sheilings—modest shelters historically utilized by crofters during summer months for livestock care. Specialized search personnel from Aberdeen and Inverness became part of the operation during the previous week. The Hebrides, Dundonnell, and Assynt mountain rescue teams, along with the Search and Rescue Dogs Association Scotland, have also participated. Underwater teams are scheduled to conduct searches in aquatic zones surrounding Lews Castle, a 19th-century estate currently operating as a visitor attraction. The missing adolescent is characterized as being 6 feet 2 inches in height, with a slender physique and short brown hair. At the time of his last sighting, he was dressed in a beige jumper and black jeans. He might also possess a red jacket and a yellow beanie hat.
