Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou reportedly becomes difficult to be around following a defeat, particularly one that revives familiar criticisms. The 59-year-old expressed frustration when questioned about his team’s open style of football, asserting that some individuals fail to comprehend his objectives and that the recent match proved a “bridge too far” for his fatigued squad. Concurrently, a notable trend among supporters emerged: they chanted the Australian manager’s name even as the team was losing 5-2. Any growing dissatisfaction regarding the club’s current struggles, with the team positioned 10th in the table, is increasingly directed towards club chairman Daniel Levy and the broader ownership structure. Prior to the match, a ‘Levy out’ protest took place, drawing several hundred fans who displayed banners. Black balloons were also distributed and subsequently shown in the 24th minute, symbolizing 24 years of the current ownership. Although only a minority of supporters participated in the specific protest, the chant “I don’t care about Levy, he doesn’t care about me,” which also acknowledges star player Dejan Kulusevski, is widely prevalent among the fanbase. Explaining the rationale behind the protests, outgoing Tottenham Supporters’ Trust chairman Martin Buhagiar informed BBC Sport: “I think we are at the point where a lot of Spurs fans have had enough – football is just not being prioritised.” He continued, “When I first came here, we had Hoddle, Ardiles, Gascoigne, Lineker, Klinsmann but the last three transfer windows have been shambolic.” Buhagiar further elaborated on his concerns, stating, “We are the only club in the league with three centre-backs, the depth isn’t good enough. I have said a few times that our starting XI is top four or five [standard], but the squad is not top 10 [standard].” He concluded his remarks by saying, “I don’t blame the players, they have taken their eye off the ball with football. We feel like we are taking a step back. Do we care about NFL games and concerts more than football?” Tottenham ultimately suffered a 6-3 defeat against league leader Liverpool. Postecoglou’s team has now allowed 13 goals in their last three matches played at home.
