Interim Cardiff City manager Omer Riza has confirmed that the team’s top scorer, Callum Robinson, is currently dealing with a persistent Achilles issue. Robinson has scored five goals in 12 matches for the Bluebirds this season. The Republic of Ireland international was substituted during the last 20 minutes of Tuesday’s match at Luton Town, where Cardiff experienced their first loss in seven league fixtures. “Callum’s carrying a knock, a chronic Achilles at the moment, which stiffens up on him,” stated interim Bluebirds boss Riza. He further explained, “We probably could have got him through the game but for me it was about changing it up and getting a little bit more intensity on the top line, just to freshen it up.” Riza also commented on the game’s conclusion, saying, “I think towards the end of the game, we had Luton in their half but just couldn’t do enough to create and score.” Additionally, Riza indicated that Alex Robertson is expected to be available for Saturday’s home game against Blackburn Rovers. The midfielder had been sidelined due to a hamstring problem, causing him to miss both the Luton match and the previous weekend’s victory against Norwich City. “He has come through the injury well,” Riza added. “He will be hopefully training and ready to go on Saturday.”
