A railway station that had been closed due to flooding brought by heavy rainfall amid Storm Bert has resumed operations. Great Western Railway (GWR) confirmed Newbury Station was now fully open after work to clear platform 1 was completed. Earlier in the week, commuters were warned of lengthy delays after tracks and a platform became submerged at the Berkshire station. A Thames Water spokesperson stated that “excess sewage water” at the station occurred despite its “proactive measures.” The spokesperson continued, “This follows Storm Bert and heavy rainfall earlier this week, which led to sewer flooding at the station.” They added, “Unfortunately this occurred despite having put proactive measures in place, including having three tankers on the ground to pump away excess water since 23 November.” You can follow BBC Berkshire on Facebook, X (Twitter), or Instagram.
