Rangers has announced the appointment of Nils Koppen, who joined the club as director of football recruitment during the 2023-24 season, as its new technical director. The club stated that Koppen “will continue to oversee the club’s transfer strategy.” The Ibrox outfit further noted, “Since arriving at the beginning of the year, Koppen has led on the significant task of implementing a new recruitment model, with Rangers striving to build a new, modern and sustainable structure for the football club.” Koppen commented: “Everything is under way to prepare for the January window. [It’s] quite an important one for the first team.” He added, “Winning is all that matters at this club and it is my job to ensure that everything that supports our men’s first team, from recruitment, to the academy, medical, performance, operations, analysis and everything in-between is at as high a level as possible.” Koppen concluded, “I look forward to the challenge ahead and to supporting the wider team as we work night and day to ensure this club is challenging for trophies on every front.” Interim chairman John Gilligan stated that Koppen “has impressed throughout the club with his leadership skills” and further mentioned he is “extremely well suited to lead the football department.” Ross Wilson, who previously held the position of Rangers director of football, left the club for Nottingham Forest in 2023. Rangers is currently in the process of appointing a new chief executive officer and a longer-term chairman. Regarding on-field activities, Philippe Clement’s men’s squad will resume play after the international break, hosting Scottish Premiership rival Dundee United on Saturday at 15:00 GMT. The team currently holds third place in the league, trailing Celtic and Aberdeen by nine points. Meanwhile, Jo Potter’s women’s team is scheduled to play United’s women’s team at home on Sunday at 16:00. They are positioned second in the SWPL, one point behind Glasgow City.
