Dominic Dietrich, Ed Dawes, Martyn Waghorn, and former Derby County goalkeeper Eric Steele provided commentary following Derby’s 2-1 victory against Coventry. Steele attributed the team’s success in the 2-1 win at Coventry primarily to the inclusion of Liam Thompson in the starting line-up. This win marked the Rams’ inaugural away triumph of the current Championship season. Steele conveyed his thoughts on BBC Radio Derby’s Rams Daily podcast, stating, “I’m impressed from many points of view, mainly a massive performance was needed after Saturday and both staff and players have fulfilled their roles.” He further noted, “They made five changes and in the end the shape worked really well.” The win against Coventry concluded a four-match winless streak for Paul Warne’s squad, and it also represented Thompson’s initial Championship start of the current season. Steele elaborated on Thompson’s contribution, stating, “Liam Thompson did what we said, he gets around people, he retains the ball, he knows when to pass it and (Kenzo) Goudmijn and him had a really good 20 minutes.” He continued, “We controlled possession a lot better than we did against Stoke on Saturday and I’m really, really pleased for Thompson. “It was a great team performance and it will do Derby the power of good with a home game coming up,” Steele concluded.
