Aberystwyth Town, a club currently struggling in the Cymru Premier, has announced the appointment of Antonio Corbisiero, a former Swansea City midfielder, as their new manager. This marks Corbisiero’s second tenure leading the team. The 39-year-old previously managed the club, departing from the position two years prior. Aberystwyth had been without a manager since Anthony Williams’ resignation last month, a period during which the club was positioned in the bottom two of Wales’ premier football division. Corbisiero, whose playing career included stints with Newport County, Aberystwyth, and Llanelli, guided the Seasiders to an eighth-place finish in 2022. This achievement represented their highest league position in recent memory. He resigned following the conclusion of his only previous season at the helm, after which Williams took over. Commenting on his return, Corbisiero stated: “I’m excited to be back at Aberystwyth Town Football Club and back amongst the Cymru Premier again, under similar circumstances to my first time taking charge. “It will be a huge challenge for my staff and I, but one we are looking forward to immensely.” Dave Taylor, who had served as interim manager and guided the team to victories against Caernarfon and Newtown, has departed from his position. Aberystwyth currently holds a two-point lead over Briton Ferry Llansawel, who are at the bottom of the league, though Aberystwyth has played two additional matches. The club has maintained its presence in the Welsh top flight since its establishment in 1992, a distinction shared solely with Newtown.
