A significant section of a play park in Devon has been temporarily closed after being vandalized with paint, as confirmed by the council. Torridge District Council reported receiving notifications from members of the public concerning the damage at the Victoria Park play area in Bideford. Devon and Cornwall Police indicated they are reviewing CCTV footage and have issued an appeal for information. The police stated that the incident is believed to have occurred overnight, sometime between Monday evening and Tuesday morning. The council specified: “A large area of Victoria Park was defaced with Light Blue Masonry Paint.” They added that “This included the Basket Swing, Spring See-Saw, Climbing Unit, Slide, and surrounding surfaces.” The authority explained that its grounds team and car park enforcement personnel promptly arrived and secured the immediate vicinity following the reports. It further stated: “We are working alongside our in-house Caretaker Team and 24/7 Drain Solutions to clean up this mess as quickly as possible to be able to reopen to the public at the earliest convenience.” The council also noted: “Unfortunately, due to the extent of the vandalism and number of resources required, this will take multiple attempts until the clean-up is complete and the park ready for use again.” The council also expressed appreciation to the public for their understanding and continued support regarding this matter. Police confirmed that the council contacted them at approximately 11:00 GMT on 5 November, reporting that the paint was “poured down the slide and thrown at other playground equipment.” Police have urged anyone with information to make contact. The same park was previously targeted by vandals in September, an incident during which a child discovered offensive graffiti.
