A disused seaside amusement arcade is slated for demolition. Canterbury City Council acquired the former Tivoli Amusements, situated on Central Parade in Herne Bay, for £1.1 million in 2018. However, the council’s subsequent attempt to sell the property failed to attract a buyer, and the building has remained derelict since. During a full council meeting held on 24 October, Chris Cornell, the cabinet member for economic development, disclosed that the building is scheduled for demolition in spring 2025. Mr. Cornell stated that the initial stage of demolition was finalized during the summer, with only the adjacent residential property and the façade of the former Tivoli Arcade remaining. He added, “The second phase of physical works will also include the demolition of the former Tivoli Arcade.” Potential uses for the site encompass selling it or undertaking development either independently or in collaboration with a partner. According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, planning permission had previously been granted for the land situated behind the arcade to be redeveloped into three retail units and 31 residential properties.
