Train services operating between Leeds and Wakefield are projected to face ongoing disruption, despite the line having reopened earlier today. The route had been impassable due to damage sustained by the overhead electric wires, which occurred when a tree fell onto them during high winds on Thursday night, with issues persisting into Friday. At 16:00 BST today, LNER confirmed that trains were once again operational between Leeds and Wakefield Westgate stations, though journeys would require more time. The operator further stated: “We will keep customers updated over the weekend via our website and social media channels.” Customers holding pre-booked tickets are authorized to utilize Transpennine, Northern, CrossCountry, and Grand Central services without additional cost. National Rail indicated that the damage in West Yorkshire resulted from a tree falling onto the railway on Thursday night. It released a statement saying: “Due to the high-risk nature of the work, and the extent of the damage, it is expected to take some time whilst the fault is dealt with and repaired.” The incident is expected to affect the following services:
