Jayson Tatum equaled a record established by Boston Celtics icon Larry Bird during the Celtics’ decisive 123-98 victory over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday. The 26-year-old recorded the third triple-double of his professional career, accumulating 43 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists. This performance propelled the reigning NBA champions to the second position in the Eastern Conference standings. It marks the first occasion a Celtics player has achieved a 40-point triple-double since Bird, a three-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) recipient, first accomplished the feat against Portland in 1992. Tatum commented, “Larry Bird is probably the best player to ever wear this uniform. So any time you accomplish something in the same sentence as him, it’s something special, even if you never reach that pinnacle.” In another game, LeBron James contributed 32 points as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Sacramento Kings with a score of 103-99. With 12 seconds remaining and trailing 101-99, the Kings had an opportunity to tie the contest after Anthony Davis of LA missed two free throws. However, the Kings failed to secure the rebound and subsequently fouled Austin Reaves, enabling the 26-year-old guard to clinch the victory by making two free throws. Elsewhere, the Miami Heat squandered a 22-point advantage in the fourth quarter, ultimately losing 121-114 to the Orlando Magic. Concurrently, Steph Curry registered 31 points during the Golden State Warriors’ 113-103 triumph over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
