An amateur rugby player from Northampton is embarking on a solo rugby tour to generate funds for a men’s mental health support group. Jake Doyle, 32, plans to play a single match for a different rugby club each weekend until April 12, with the aim of raising money for Man Cave UK. Mr. Doyle, who works as a personal adviser assisting young individuals transitioning from care services, is undertaking this challenge without any prior preparation or familiarity with the teams he will be joining. He commented: “I’m trying to play for as many clubs in the county as possible. It’s just about turning up and having a bit of fun.” Having been involved in rugby since the age of 13, Mr. Doyle stated that he balances playing the sport alongside coaching. So far, as part of this fundraising initiative, he has participated with eight teams, which include Daventry RFC, Northampton’s Mens Own RFC, and Towcestrians RFC. Mr. Doyle characterized the experience by saying, “I turn up, meet the team, talk about what [he is] doing, into the warm up and then straight into the game”. According to Mr. Doyle, his involvement in the fundraising tour has resulted in “positive memories and friendships all over the county”.
