A lorry driver has died following a collision on the M6 in Lancashire on Wednesday. The incident involved the lorry crossing the central reservation, entering the opposing carriageway, and colliding with multiple other vehicles. Police reported that five additional individuals sustained injuries in the 10-vehicle crash, with two of them described as serious. Lancashire Police confirmed that the HGV driver, identified as a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The collision occurred around 11:20 GMT, specifically between Junctions 33, located near Lancaster, and 32, near Preston. National Highways indicated that two lanes on each carriageway were operational, while the third lane on both sides remained closed for necessary barrier repairs. Authorities stated that the HGV, which had been proceeding northbound, veered across into the southbound carriageway, subsequently impacting several other vehicles. Among those seriously injured were the driver of a Ford Transit, a man in his 40s, and a woman in her 40s who was operating a Suzuki Swift. Police reported that an investigation into the incident is ongoing. Supt Hassan Khan conveyed that his thoughts were primarily with the family and friends of the deceased driver, in addition to “all those affected by this tragic incident.” He further appealed: “I would ask anyone who witnessed the collision, and who has not yet spoken to police, to get in touch.” He also noted that “Work is still ongoing to repair the road so I would urge people to avoid the area if they can or check before you travel. I appreciate the delays are frustrating, but safety work needs to be completed before the road can open again.” Motorists have been advised to anticipate increased traffic volumes due to the continued lane closures.
