A six-year-old enthusiast of Harry Potter, who received a wand from a benevolent stranger after misplacing his original, conveyed that he now feels “like a wizard”. Richard had accumulated his pocket money, earned through performing chores for his grandparents, to acquire a £33 Sword of Gryffindor wand from the Harry Potter shop located on Platform 9 3/4 at King’s Cross Station. The youngster, however, was left feeling “sad” after inadvertently leaving it on a London Overground to Watford Junction train that same day, Sunday 10 November. As if by magic, subsequent to his father Matthew’s online post, a woman from Washington, near Sunderland, dispatched a new one to him through “special” delivery. Matthew stated that a friend had informed him about Facebook’s online lost and found service, known as Lostbox, prompting him to create a post on 12 November to inquire if assistance was available. Angela Mcgeoch, who lives 260 miles away, commented on the post, mentioning her own 13-year-old son’s wand which was “sat in a box in his room” and that she wished to give to Richard. Hundreds of people have interacted with a follow-up post from Lostbox concerning the young Harry Potter fan and his new wand. Richard, whose favourite character from the JK Rowling book series is Harry, remarked: “I was happy as I don’t get post a lot. I feel like a wizard now I have a wand.” Additionally, Ms Mcgeoch dispatched a letter to him, presented as originating from Hogwarts. The letter read: “Dear Richard, it was brought to my attention that you had misplaced your wand.”I find this very sad as you were just becoming a fantastic ‘wizard’. Therefore I hope you accept this one as a replacement.”Safe spells, Hogwarts.” Matthew, 51, commented: “The reaction really did surprise me and just the fact Angela reached out was really heartfelt.”She’s an incredible person. “I do believe there’s goodness in the world.” Since receiving the new wand, Richard has been occupied with refining his spells and progressing through the Harry Potter books. Ms Mcgeoch, 46, stated that upon encountering the online post, she immediately recalled that her son possessed a wand he no longer used, as he had “lost his magic”. She expressed that witnessing the youngster’s delight was rewarding.
