Rare Amur tiger cubs recently participated in an enrichment activity involving pumpkins at a safari park. The four cubs, Ginger Biscuit, Dora-Boo, Seeka, and Heidi, are approaching six months old and were born to their mother Yana at Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire. Darren Beasley, the head of animal operations, explained the importance of introducing new activities by stating it is “encouraging and enabling the animals to use their natural behaviours, dynamic senses and natural instincts”. He also noted that Longleat houses the largest collection of tigers in the UK. Yana, the mother, first examined the pumpkins before allowing her cubs to investigate them. The tigers wasted no time in destroying the pumpkins. Mr. Beasley expressed that Longleat is “really proud of how the cubs have thrived under the care of Yana and our dedicated keepers”.
