An individual has received a 19-month prison sentence for stabbing a police officer with a pointed vegetable peeler, an act that followed an assault on two shop employees. During a previous proceeding at Northampton Crown Court, Parampreet Singh, aged 26, admitted guilt to charges that included grievous bodily harm, assaulting an emergency worker, and criminal damage. Detective Constable Roisin Harrison commented: “His actions in assaulting store staff and then police officers were entirely unprovoked and the violence he used was shocking, going from a calm situation to a ferocious attack in a split second.” Furthermore, the court advised that Singh, an Indian national residing on Heath Street in Birmingham, should face deportation subsequent to completing his sentence. The event took place on 30 March at a retail establishment within St James Retail Park, Northampton. Store personnel discovered Singh utilizing a plug socket to charge his mobile phone. Upon being requested to cease, he responded with verbal abuse and physically attacked two staff members, prompting a call to the police. Upon the arrival of officers, Singh initiated an assault, as was presented in court. He employed a vegetable peeler to stab one officer in the head, resulting in a “significant” injury, while another officer suffered deep scratch marks on their arm. Singh was brought under control using a taser. Following his arrest, Singh repeatedly spat inside the police transport vehicle. Authorities discovered amphetamines in his possession.
