The annual “wrapathon” event, now in its third year, facilitated the dispatch of 25,000 gifts to children residing in Ukraine. Last month, hundreds of volunteers participated in events across various towns, including Ipswich in Suffolk, Bath, Swindon in Wiltshire, and Kempston in Bedfordshire, to gift wrap donated items such as toys and books. Sergej Zubaryev, responsible for coordinating the distribution of these presents within Ukraine, stated that the gifts served to assure children they were not forgotten. Jeremy Fish, representing the Plant & Hire Aid Alliance, the organization behind the wrapathon, expressed his hope that 2025 would see the conclusion of the conflict in the nation. The presents reached Ukraine on Tuesday and are slated for distribution via Rotary Clubs. Mr. Zubaryev commented: “Britain is many kilometres away from Ukraine, but those are just distances.” He continued, “In spirit, they live with us and with our children. I want to say that the world has stopped seeing orphans and children in Ukraine specifically, but thanks to the British people, and especially Jeremy, his kind and patient wife, and his friends who trust him, many people and children will feel warmth in their hearts. They know that God and Britain are with them,” he stated. Furthermore, Mr. Zubaryev characterized the gifts as a “piece of kindness” that instilled hope and warmth among the Ukrainian populace. Mr. Fish, a founding member of the Plant and Hire Aid Alliance, conceived the event’s concept after transporting a van of humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian border in February 2022. He extended gratitude to both gift contributors and volunteers, adding, “Fingers crossed, this will be the last time we need to do this and that 2025 brings peace, stability and common sense back to the world,” he remarked. Russia initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Earlier this month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that 43,000 of the nation’s soldiers have perished since the conflict intensified in 2022. He additionally asserted that 198,000 Russian soldiers had been killed and another 550,000 wounded.
