A Labour market report indicates that the total number of positions across Jersey’s private and public sectors reached its highest point since 2000 during June. Statistics Jersey reported that its Labour Market report, issued biannually, identified 65,290 roles on the island in June 2024. This figure represents an increase from the 64,260 roles recorded in December 2023. The private sector accounted for 55,590 posts, while the civil service had 9,710, which marks the highest recorded figure for the civil service to date. The data revealed an annual rise of 70 jobs within the private sector, 450 jobs in government, and an additional 130 posts across private education, health, and other service sectors. Conversely, employment in the building trade and quarrying decreased by 160 jobs, and the hotels, restaurants, bars, and retail sector saw a reduction of 100 jobs.
