Enforcement by speed cameras is scheduled for the A6 within Leicestershire. The Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Road Safety Partnership announced that a 30mph segment of this route, specifically where it traverses Kibworth Harcourt, will be included among the designated “community concern” locations where mobile speed camera units operate. According to Leicestershire Police Sgt Peter Jelbert, who communicated this to local residents, surveillance will commence in November and continue for a minimum of one year. He further noted that this period might be prolonged to 18 months. The public has the option to propose any road within Leicestershire and Rutland for inclusion in the community concern initiative; however, not every nominated location ultimately receives monitoring. Jonathan Clarkson, a spokesperson for the Partnership, previously stated that proof of excessive speed and collisions was a prerequisite. While only the A6 in Kibworth is being incorporated in November, 15 other roads received approval for monitoring in September. The decision to add the A6 follows a speed survey conducted on the section north of the Wistow Road roundabout, which revealed consistent instances of drivers exceeding the speed limit. Sgt Jelbert confirmed that specific patrol sites have been identified both to the north and south of the roundabout. For updates, follow BBC Leicester on Facebook, X, or Instagram.
