A facility designed to support children with health conditions in their return to mainstream education has commenced operations in a Leicestershire community. This institution, named The Phoenix Learning Centre, was established by The Children’s Hospital School in Hinckley and provides 12-week programs. It is intended for students between the ages of 11 and 16 who have experienced absences from regular schooling due to health issues, including anxiety and various mental health conditions, as well as those currently hospitalized at Leicester Royal Infirmary and Glenfield Hospital. Situated within the Atkins Building, its establishment eliminates the necessity for children residing in south Leicestershire to commute to Leicester to access the Children’s Hospital School’s existing three locations. Stephen Deadman, the Headteacher, stated: “Having a centre locally means that students are able to remain within their community which we know increases a successful transition back into school.” Mark Bools, the deputy leader of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, commented that The Phoenix Learning Centre would be “of great benefit to children across Hinckley and Bosworth as they work towards getting back into their regular school”.
