Emergency services, including police officers and paramedics, responded to the incident shortly after 23:00 GMT on Thursday. The scene was located on Watling Street, part of the A5, close to its intersection with Eastern Way, near Hockliffe. Authorities closed the road, and three individuals requiring medical attention, one of whom sustained serious injuries, were transported to Luton and Dunstable Hospital. The arrests of the men occurred at the site of the crash, prior to the road’s reopening around 07:00. Both individuals are currently held in police custody. Detective Sergeant Shona Birkby characterized the collision as “incredibly serious.” She further stated, “We are keen to identify the driver of an HGV van which is believed to have been travelling along the A5 at the time of the incident and may have witnessed the collision, as well as a number of witnesses who left the scene prior to police arrival.” The police urged anyone possessing information to come forward and contact them.
