A murder investigation was initiated after the body of a man was discovered in his bedroom a month ago, prompting his stepdaughter to state she “just wants answers.” William Riddell, 59, was found deceased by emergency medical personnel at his residence on Astbury Avenue in Chorlton, Manchester, on November 10. A 47-year-old individual, apprehended by Greater Manchester Police in connection with the suspected murder, has since been granted bail. Sarah Hayden, Mr. Riddell’s 41-year-old stepdaughter, joined the police force in appealing for anyone with information or who witnessed anything suspicious to step forward. She described Mr. Riddell, affectionately known as Billy, as a “good, caring man with a big heart” who was highly regarded within the local community. Ms. Hayden stated that his unexpected passing had been “devastating,” noting that her “emotions have just been all over the place.” To ascertain his movements, police have disseminated CCTV footage of Mr. Riddell from the day preceding his death. Emergency medical personnel found his body around 11:35 GMT following reports of a disturbance at the residence. Detective Inspector Alex Wilkinson stated that law enforcement was summoned after multiple suspicious injuries were observed on his body. The police force is awaiting the completion of a pathology report and has requested public assistance to establish the events leading to his demise, including any suspicious activities or occurrences in the days or weeks before his death. “You may have spoken to him or heard something, and your help could allow us to provide Billy’s family with the answers they deserve,” Det Insp Wilkinson remarked. Ms. Hayden confirmed that her stepfather’s funeral occurred on Monday. She commented, “It was difficult, he got a good turnout because the community came, and they loved Billy as well, he was a top guy.” She further appealed, “I would just ask anyone who knew him to come forward and tell police.”
