Scotland’s victory against Poland in the Nations League was described as “a bit bittersweet” by midfielder John McGinn, who noted the squad experienced “mixed emotions.” Early in the match, Scotland took the lead with a goal from McGinn. At that point, with Portugal ahead in their match against Croatia, Scotland was just one goal shy of securing a quarter-final spot and a top seed position for World Cup qualification. Nevertheless, both Poland and Croatia managed to score equalizers. Despite Andy Robertson scoring a late winning goal for Scotland, the team ultimately finished in third place. McGinn conveyed to BBC Scotland, “It was a bit of a roller coaster,” adding, “At half time, we knew it was 1-0 to Portugal. We thought ‘right we’re in pot one’.” He concluded, “So it’s a really nice feeling to [potentially] stay in League A, but we wanted more.”
