Approval has been granted for proposals involving the expansion of a water channel and the establishment of additional ponds within a wetland park. This initiative forms a component of a broader undertaking aimed at rerouting a river back to its original course. This initiative, managed by the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, seeks to rehabilitate a section of the River Sherbourne. The most recent stage of this endeavor involves the development of a “suite of wetland features” at Lake View Park, situated in Spon End, Coventry, following the city council’s endorsement of the plans. According to the proposals, the project is expected to enhance existing wildlife habitats within the park, foster a more robust river ecosystem, and facilitate improved water retention capabilities during periods of flooding. The overarching project is receiving financial support from a £3 million fund provided by the trust, designated for the enhancement of a river segment extending from Corley Moor, located northeast of the city, to Whitley Abbey in the southern area. Within Lake View Park specifically, the river’s channel will undergo widening at four distinct locations, complemented by the introduction of four ponds and two supplementary wetland elements. Overall, the park is slated to receive a total of 14 new installations.
