A significant quantity of cable, interred beneath a road in Worcestershire, has been severed and removed by thieves. According to officers, the perpetrators gained access to and severed the valuable wiring on December 4 by lifting a manhole cover on Stourbridge Road in Catshill, close to Bromsgrove. The subsequent night, in the late hours, the identical section of cable was severed at a point further down the road. The West Mercia force reported that the cable was subsequently fastened to a vehicle, extracted from the ground, then divided into pieces, and removed from the site. PC Paul Coles stated: “There are two separate occasions when potential witnesses could have been passing through.” “We are keen to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious.” More than ten years prior, a significant increase in metal thefts was mitigated through the implementation of scrap dealer licensing and limitations on cash transactions that could not be traced. Nevertheless, such incidents persist, with certain occurrences incurring costs of hundreds of thousands of pounds for businesses and private citizens.
