Two teddy bears, described as “completely irreplaceable,” have been located in Scotland after being lost in transit while en route to Devon. These specific teddy bears were custom-crafted by a Liverpool-based business, utilizing ties belonging to Marilyn Taylor’s deceased husband, Alistair. Despite being dispatched by the company in early October, they did not reach her residence in Torbay. Mrs. Taylor reported that both she and her postwoman became emotional upon the package’s arrival and opening on November 11, following the bears’ discovery at a Scottish depot. Royal Mail confirmed that its personnel had been actively seeking the items since their disappearance. According to Mrs. Taylor, Royal Mail conducted an investigation, distributing posters to various depots to aid in locating the parcel, ultimately tracing it to a Glasgow depot on November 8. She expressed profound distress over the bears’ disappearance, explaining that all of her husband’s ties had been used in their creation. She noted that the items had been dispatched with both tracking and a signature requirement. Mrs. Taylor stated, “Julia, the lady who made the bears, was in contact with me all the time,” adding, “There was a gentleman from the depot up there who was keeping in touch with her and telling her what was going on. ‘He really wasn’t going to let it go at all.'” Mrs. Taylor remarked that “nobody knows” how the items ended up in Scotland, commenting, “These packages are really big, bright pink, so how they managed to get lost, I have no idea.” Upon finally receiving her parcel, she chose to open it alongside her postwoman. She described the moment as “really quite emotional. She was thrilled for me, obviously so was I because these are completely irreplaceable,” adding, “I burst into tears and my post lady joined me.” A spokesperson for Royal Mail commented, “Our colleagues have been actively searching for these items since they went missing and we are very pleased that we were able to reunite them with the customer.” Readers can follow BBC Devon on X, Facebook, and Instagram.
