Kent Police has announced its intention to utilize a new system designed to assist in finding armed forces veterans who are reported missing. This system, named The Forcer Protocol, will provide officers with access to crucial information, including previous instances of the individual going missing and any identified risk factors. The initiative is named in memory of Alan Forcer, a veteran who disappeared and died by suicide in May 2020. His widow, Claire Lilly, established the project. This system operates by having veterans’ families complete a form with relevant information, which will only be accessed in the event that the individual is reported as missing. Furthermore, the protocol has the potential to facilitate additional support from the NHS for veterans once they are located. The protocol has already been implemented by other police forces across the United Kingdom. Ms Lilly stated: “Since we launched the Forcer Protocol in Manchester last year, more than 170 veterans have been safely located.” She added: “I would like to extend our family’s deepest gratitude to Kent Police for adopting the Forcer Protocol. It means so much to see a network so invested in driving real change.” Chief Inspector Gary Woodward commented: “Serving within and transitioning from the armed forces can be an overwhelming experience at times and in some instances difficult and distressing.” He urged: “I would encourage all service veterans, concerned family or friends to visit the website and complete the form. It could save your life.” For more information and updates, follow BBC Kent on Facebook, X, and Instagram. Story ideas can be sent to southeasttoday@bbc.co.uk or via WhatsApp at 08081 002250.
