Following their win against Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday, Swansea City has accumulated 10 points from their most recent five away matches. This performance level is characteristic of a team vying for automatic promotion, which aligns with Luke Williams’ observation that Swansea is “quietly improving” in their away fixtures. Swansea’s hard-fought yet merited victory against Plymouth made them only the second visiting team to secure a win at Home Park during the current season. They replicated this achievement at Derby County on 27 November, having previously been the inaugural team to triumph at Oxford United’s Kassam Stadium in the ongoing campaign earlier last month. Williams’ squad is demonstrating an ability to secure victories at venues where other teams have encountered difficulties. Swansea has gathered 14 away points in the 2024-25 season, which surpasses Leeds United’s current tally by one, although the league leaders have participated in two fewer away matches. This marks a significant reversal of fortunes for the Swans, who had previously lost four of their initial five away fixtures this season. Swansea head coach Williams stated, “I think we are quietly improving performances.” He added, “I think we are able to simulate something close to our home performance level away from home now, which wasn’t the case [previously].” Williams further commented, “I think we are learning to cope with the environment and the challenges away from home in a better way. We are gathering momentum with our performances.” Following Sunderland’s visit to Wales this Saturday, Swansea will embark on another away trip to confront Hull City in their last match before the Christmas break. Considering their current away performance and Hull’s difficulties, Williams’ team could travel to Humberside with considerable confidence.
