A historic venue located in Coventry has commenced operations again, now overseen by new management. DH Venues announced its intention to transform Drapers’ Hall into “a premier event space” following the finalization of an agreement with Historic Coventry Trust, the proprietor of the structure. The management firm stated that Drapers’ Hall is slated to accommodate “a wide range of events, from award ceremonies, exhibitions and conferences, to weddings, celebrations and concerts”. This Grade II* listed edifice, situated within the Cathedral Quarter, underwent a £5m renovation in 2021, having been inaccessible for three decades prior. Subsequently, it has served as the base for Coventry Music Service, which has utilized the premises as a hub for musical instruction and presentations. DH Venues confirmed its commitment to continue hosting smaller-scale music events. Chris Hartley, Director and also a member of the oversight board for Destination Coventry, commented: “This is a venue with incredible heritage and huge potential. We are proud to be taking it on and excited about what we can achieve in this wonderful space.” Joanne Glover, chief executive of Coventry Business Improvement District (BID), remarked that Drapers’ Hall occupies a central position in the city’s heritage and historical narrative. She added: “This is a true ‘wow’ venue which is perfectly positioned to thrive, providing an incredible backdrop for a vast range of events.” Ian Harrabin, Chairman of Historic Coventry Trust, noted that the refurbishment project occurred during the height of the Covid pandemic. He stated: “I am really pleased that the events world is now getting back to normal and Drapers’ Hall can reach its potential.” The present Drapers’ Hall, which is the third structure on this particular site, originates from 1832, having been constructed to serve as the main office for the Coventry Drapers’ Guild. It withstood the aerial bombardment during World War Two, an event that severely damaged the adjacent cathedral.
