A parish councillor has described the damage inflicted upon a sensory garden by a significant group of teenagers as “devastating.” Authorities are seeking public assistance following the act of vandalism, which occurred at Prestbury Play Park in Cheltenham on 1 December around 15:45 GMT. During the event, plants were forcibly removed from flower beds, and both signs and windchimes sustained damage. A substantial portion of this damage has since been rectified. Sandra Attwood, representing Prestbury Parish Council, stated: “We don’t want it to happen again because it was really upsetting for the people that tend the garden and for members of the public that pass by every day.” Ms. Attwood reported that individuals who were in the vicinity at the time captured images and subsequently informed the parish council about the damage. She further commented: “While a lot of the damage has now been fixed, there are plants that still need replacing.” She added: “I was quite devastated because I think people do enjoy it and it seems mindless.” Law enforcement officials indicated that the group consisted of 15 teenagers, believed to be approximately 15 years of age. Some members of the group were observed on bicycles, while others were on foot, and all were characterized as wearing black attire. Ms. Attwood implored anyone possessing relevant details to get in touch with Gloucestershire Police. She also made an appeal: “If anybody would like to volunteer to help us with the garden… please approach the parish council.” The garden is regularly utilized by individuals in wheelchairs and young mothers accompanied by their children. Local volunteers maintain the garden every week.
