Telford and Wrekin Council in Shropshire has introduced a £50 reward program designed to combat dog fouling. This initiative offers financial incentives to individuals who report dog owners failing to clear up after their pets, with the payment issued upon a fine being imposed by council wardens. Earlier this year, the authority began spray-painting signs adjacent to illegal deposits in an effort to address “record amounts of dog poo being left in certain places.” Councillor Richard Overton indicated that a small number of individuals are recognized as persistent offenders. He added, “This reward scheme empowers the community to act and help us tackle this issue effectively. By working together, we can ensure our parks and streets remain clean and enjoyable for everyone.” The £50 reward represents half of the fixed penalty notice that dog owners are required to pay. The council stated that dog fouling is not only unpleasant but also poses health risks, and the program aims to encourage public participation in keeping communal areas clean. Incidents can be reported through the MyTelford app and the confidential Telford & Wrekin Watch hotline.
