The signage for a new £50 million music venue in Bradford has received approval to stay, notwithstanding the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the facility’s operational future. Bradford Council granted approval for an application allowing the purple sign to remain affixed to Bradford Live, located on Godwin Street, following the expiration of its advertising contract earlier in the current month. This sign was erected on the structure earlier this year, preceding Bradford’s designation as UK City of Culture in 2025. Its installation occurred several months before the NEC Group, the intended operator, announced its withdrawal from the project in September. According to planners, the sign is expected to contribute “interest and animation” to the edifice, which occupies the former site of the city’s Odeon cinema. They stated: “Given the large-scale nature of the building, along with the blank elevations to the building, the proposed screen is considered an appropriate addition to the host building.“It would provide interest and animation to the building, reflecting the vibrancy and nature of the proposed events venue.” The Local Democracy Reporting Service reported that the 3,800-seat facility was initially scheduled to commence operations in November. Nevertheless, following a period of several months without updates regarding the venue’s prospects, the NEC group’s withdrawal was declared in September. The group affirmed its decision to “step away from Bradford Live with immediate effect” subsequent to reaching an agreement with the council for release from its contractual obligations. A spokesperson for the council further commented at that time that the NEC Group had concluded that “the venue will be better served by an alternative operator” and that the group intended to be “focussing on its existing operations in the Birmingham area”. The council is presently engaged in the search for a new operator for Bradford Live. Post navigation Karol G: Colombia’s Global Music Star and Streaming Leader Scheduled Highlights: November 12, 2024
