Manchester United’s central defender, Harry Maguire, delivered an outstanding performance in Sunday’s victory over Manchester City. Maguire had previously declined an opportunity to depart Old Trafford at the beginning of last season, despite United accepting an offer from West Ham. Following this, he successfully reclaimed his position in the squad under Erik ten Hag. When Ruben Amorim took over from the Dutch manager last month, there was initial doubt about Maguire’s suitability for a three-man defensive formation, especially given the presence of Matthijs de Ligt, a player with a similar style. However, both Maguire and De Ligt started the match against City. Later in the game, when Amorim introduced Leny Yoro with 11 minutes remaining, it was De Ligt who was substituted. Maguire’s current agreement is set to conclude in the summer, though Manchester United possesses an option to prolong it for an additional season. Regarding his future, Maguire stated: “My contract is not something I had thought too much about but all the signs are positive at the moment and the chat that I’m having is really positive.” Post navigation James Tavernier’s Long Service to Rangers Reviewed Amidst Team’s Current Difficulties Scottish Football Gossip: Carrick on Doak’s Status, McTominay Receives Praise
