The public has been asked to select a name for an upcoming facility that will offer NHS and wellbeing services. This facility is slated for Whitehaven town centre and is designed to provide round-the-clock support to residents throughout West Cumbria. According to the Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust, it will collaborate with other organizations to deliver mental health services, alongside assistance and guidance on matters such as housing, financial management, and employment. Residents have been prompted by the trust to pick from a selection of four names, which were put forward by Cumbrian organizations. The options, which include The Space, Peace of Mind, Hope and Anchor, and Hope Haven, are available for voting. This endeavor represents one of six pilot programs nationwide, initially receiving two years of funding from NHS England, with the aim of enhancing mental health support within local communities. Additionally, the center will feature four short-stay beds, serving as an alternative to hospital admissions for individuals. Julia Clifford, who founded iCan Wellbeing CIO, stated that the names were selected to embody the service as a “space to reflect and find peace and hope for recovery”. She added, “This will be a new way of working, based right in the heart of our communities, helping people to get help early and live healthier, happier lives.” The hub is anticipated to open in the spring, once construction on the building concludes. In the interim, services are scheduled to commence from temporary locations in other structures later this year.
