A correctional facility underwent a conversion to host a market with a gothic theme, occupying its individual cells. On Saturday, over 120 vendors at Gloucester Prison presented a variety of goods, ranging from gothic art and literature to items from crystal healers and fantasy crafts. The venue also provided coffee and burgers for purchase, and attendees had the opportunity to sit on “authentic prison stools”. Julie Farr, a lecturer at the University of Gloucestershire, conceived this concept and expressed her excitement, stating she was “excited to see the typically dark, silent building pulsing with life”. Ms Farr further commented: “It’s an eerie, sensory experience as light trickles in through the cell windows, casting shadows all around as you sit in a prison cell experiencing a head massage or psychic reading.“Developing this event and watching it grow remains a thrilling and rewarding experience.” For updates, follow BBC Gloucestershire on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
