Chris Willock, who transferred to Cardiff City from QPR prior to the commencement of the 2024-25 season, has become the newest addition to the club’s increasing roster of injured players. The former QPR winger, Willock, had to leave the field during Saturday’s 2-0 home loss against Championship leaders Sheffield United. Manager Omer Riza stated that it is premature to determine the exact duration of the 26-year-old’s absence, though he is improbable to feature in the away fixture against Oxford United scheduled for Thursday, 26 December. Riza commented on the injury, saying: “He [Willock] has hurt his hip-flexor. He just couldn’t run.” The manager also added: “We have to move forward with what we’ve got and we have to be ready.” On Saturday, midfielders Joe Ralls and Callum O’Dowda were unavailable due to injuries, and defender Perry Ng and winger Ollie Tanner are also set to miss the upcoming match against Oxford. These more recent, shorter-term injuries compound the existing list of long-term absentees, which includes Aaron Ramsey, David Turnbull, Kion Etete, and Isaak Davies. The Bluebirds’ loss to the Blades marked their eighth consecutive match without a victory, positioning them within the Championship’s bottom three as Christmas approaches.
