Cardiff City manager Omer Riza has indicated that midfielder Aaron Ramsey is “a long way off” returning from injury. Ramsey has participated in only 13 Championship matches since rejoining Cardiff in July 2023. The Wales international has been sidelined due to a hamstring injury and has not appeared in a game since the Bluebirds’ 2-0 loss to Middlesbrough on August 31. Ramsey, who made just nine starts for Cardiff during an injury-plagued 2023-24 season, is scheduled to be out of contract at the conclusion of the current season. Riza refrained from confirming whether Ramsey would play again for Cardiff during the current campaign. Riza stated, “It is important we get him to the point where he’s training consistently.” He added, “Then we can look at whether he plays.” Riza further commented, “There have been a few reoccurrences, so it would be unfair of me to put pressure on him.” On Wednesday evening, Cardiff missed an opportunity to move out of the Championship’s relegation zone, suffering a 2-0 home defeat against Preston North End. This result extends Riza’s team’s winless streak to six games, placing them in a fight against relegation. This recent update represents a significant setback, as Riza had previously stated in early October that the Wales star required only “three or four more weeks” of rehabilitation. Riza remarked, “It’s frustrating for him, frustrating for me, the club and the fans.” He concluded, “They are not just players, they are people as well. He will get through it and then we can assess.” The Bluebirds are scheduled to resume Championship play on Saturday, aiming to secure a victory against Stoke City.
