After Rangers manager Philippe Clement secured an impressive Europa League victory in Nice on Thursday, focus shifts back to domestic league play. While the Belgian’s European showings have been strong, the Ibrox manager has drawn significant criticism regarding Premiership results and performances this season. Ahead of Sunday’s match against St Johnstone, an analysis of Clement’s league record has been conducted. Clement’s win percentage in the Premiership is 69%, having lost seven and drawn six of his 42 matches in the league. The most recent draw occurred last Saturday when Clement’s team recovered from a deficit against Dundee United at Ibrox. This result places them 11 points behind league leaders Celtic and eight points behind second-placed Aberdeen. A comparison of the Ibrox manager’s record with those of his predecessors reveals that his league win percentage is the lowest among Rangers managers since Graeme Murty, who left his position in May 2018. Michael Beale achieved a 77% win rate, while Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s was 70%. Steven Gerrard’s win percentage, over a significantly larger number of games, stood at 72%. Given an upcoming demanding schedule and significant point deficits to overcome against both teams, Clement is under pressure to significantly improve this win rate, or he risks facing the same outcome as the two managers who preceded him.
