A dog, previously rescued by fire crews after falling through ice, has reunited with his rescuers alongside his owner to express gratitude. The incident occurred on 22 November when the dog, named Bilbo, was walking in Melton Mowbray Country Park, Leicestershire. He fell into a lake’s water approximately 30m (33yds) from the embankment. Melton fire crews, supported by a technical rescue team from Leicester, utilized an inflatable sled to successfully retrieve Bilbo from the water. Following the rescue, the animal received veterinary care and made a full recovery. Subsequently, Bilbo visited Southern station in Leicester, where he met some of the fire crews involved in his rescue, as well as the call handler who took the 999 call. The fire service characterized the outcome as a “pawwfect” ending to the event. However, they issued a caution to dog owners, advising them to keep their pets on leads when near cold water and ice during the winter months. A spokesperson commented, stating: “It was great to see Bilbo running around happy – a wufferly and pawwfect ending in this instance. However, for all you dog lovers out there, although the water and ice may look inviting, in cold weather it is extremely dangerous. Please stay safe.” Post navigation Bristol Harbour Hosts Inaugural Winter Solstice Swim Young Woman Credits Children in Need-Backed Charity for Personal Growth and Confidence
