England international lock Ollie Chessum has agreed to a contract extension with Leicester Tigers. He has played for England 23 times since his debut in 2022. The 24-year-old, who developed through Leicester’s academy system, was a member of the team that secured the 2022 Premiership title. Following that achievement, he signed his previous contract extension with the club. Chessum referred to the Tigers as “my home” upon signing his most recent agreement, though the specific duration of his contract has not been revealed. “I’ve tasted what success feels like at Leicester and I’ll give everything I have to the team to make sure we get back there again,” he stated to the club’s website. The lock served as captain for the Tigers for the first time during their season-opening match against Exeter in August. However, he has made only four appearances this season so far due to an injury sustained during training with the national team. He has accumulated 60 appearances for the club since his senior debut for the Tigers in 2020. Michael Cheika, Leicester’s head coach, commented that Chessum’s commitment to the East Midlands team’s future was “really important for the club.” Cheika remarked, “Ollie is 24, home grown, has Leicester Tigers in his blood and is a high-quality player.” He added, “He has been introduced to a leadership role within the team earlier this season and showed good skills given the opportunity. I’m very happy he will be part of the club these coming seasons.”
