According to fan Emily Brobyn, Manchester City’s players are mere “shadows” of their former selves under manager Pep Guardiola. The club’s recent poor performance has deteriorated further following a 2-1 home derby loss to rivals Manchester United, decided by a late goal. This outcome signifies that Pep Guardiola’s team has secured only one victory in their last 11 matches. “We are just used to it now, as City fans. We let Manchester United come to the Etihad and dictate play. We showed far too much respect,” Brobyn stated during an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast. She continued, “But, it was a really poor standard of a derby. They must have thought Christmas had come early at the end. We gift wrapped the game – we handed it to them on an absolute plate.” Many supporters currently find it puzzling, given that they have celebrated these players for years. Just last season, fans were commemorating their achievement of winning four consecutive titles, having shared numerous experiences with this squad. However, now, the players appear to be complete shadows of their previous form. Brobyn lamented that everything the players represented on the field has entirely vanished. This includes their characteristic pressing tactics and their consistent pursuit of lost possession. The fundamental principles that defined them as a Pep Guardiola team have, according to her, entirely disappeared. She concluded by saying, “We are in a really tricky situation that nobody could have foreseen but we have to just ride it and hope we get to the other side.”
