Authorities have apprehended five individuals in connection with the death of a pedestrian, a woman in her 50s, who succumbed to her injuries after being hit by a vehicle. According to Lancashire Police, the incident occurred on Manchester Road in Nelson at approximately 20:30 GMT on Sunday, when she was struck by a blue Volkswagen Golf and died at the scene. The Volkswagen Golf involved in the collision did not remain at the scene but was subsequently located on Pennine Crescent. Among those taken into custody, two men aged 19, a 20-year-old woman, and a 17-year-old boy face charges on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Additionally, a 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Police confirmed that all five individuals are currently being held for questioning. Sgt Laura Kendall issued an appeal, stating: “If you have any footage of the incident, or of the Volkswagen Golf before or after the collision on Manchester Road, please get in touch. We are also very keen to identify anyone that has seen the vehicle or has CCTV of it heading towards the Pennine Crescent area.”
