A bridge carrying vehicles over a canal and a river has resumed operation after inspections confirmed no structural issues following a fire that occurred beneath it. The blaze took place below Squibbers Way in Bridgwater on Monday night, as stated by Somerset Council. The thoroughfare, which spans the River Parrett and the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal to the south of the town centre, underwent an assessment for any structural integrity concerns but was determined to be intact. The council indicated its swift action in reopening the road was aimed at minimizing disruption for drivers already experiencing delays due to the prior closure of the M5 motorway between Taunton and Bridgwater.
