A dispersal order has been implemented in a town centre following incidents of anti-social behaviour. This Section 35 order specifically targets the Southwater, shopping centre, and town park areas within Telford, Shropshire. West Mercia Police announced that the order grants officers additional authority to direct individuals aged over 10, who are engaged in anti-social behaviour, to leave the designated areas. The police force indicated that this measure was prompted by incidents involving young people in the Southwater area on Saturday evening, and it will remain in effect until 19:40 GMT on Monday. “The aim of the order is to prevent the minority from ruining it for the majority trying to go about their normal business in peace and for us to provide reassurance to the public,” stated Insp Jodie Davies. “The dispersal order provides police officers additional powers to exclude individuals from the town centre if they choose to act in an inappropriate way.” West Mercia Police also confirmed an increased presence of officers on patrol.
