An individual has been charged with conspiracy to import cannabis, valued at £17 million, into the United Kingdom from the United States. James Montgomery, residing at Pinfold Lane, Methley, was taken into custody on Monday in the Allerton Bywater area of Leeds. A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police stated that the 44-year-old is accused of attempting to import 213 kilograms (34st 2lb) of cannabis. He appeared before Leeds Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, where he was remanded in custody, with a subsequent appearance scheduled at Leeds Crown Court on December 3. Mr. Montgomery, whose arrest was part of an investigation by the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit and West Yorkshire Police, was denied bail during Tuesday’s hearing.
