Gwalia United advanced to the third round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup after a decisive 4-0 win against Bridgwater United. Cori Williams-Mills was instrumental in the victory, scoring a hat-trick. Gwalia United currently holds the 10th position in the Women’s Premier League Southern Division. The Welsh team played the match at Ocean Park in Cardiff, their former home ground, because their current stadium, Spytty Park in Newport, was waterlogged. Despite the challenging wet conditions, Gwalia United took the lead when midfielder Chloe Lloyd delivered a pass that penetrated the defence of fourth-tier Bridgwater, setting up Gwalia captain Williams-Mills for a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper. Williams-Mills calmly placed the ball into the net to open the scoring. The captain quickly added her second goal, converting a header from an Emily Poole corner just before half-time. Williams-Mills completed her hat-trick ten minutes into the second half, with her shot from the edge of the box sailing past Alex Madden in goal. Gwalia, who compete in the third tier of the English football pyramid, maintained their pressure. Substitute Jessie Taylor scored the fourth goal in the 90th minute with a strike from outside the box, ensuring Gwalia’s 4-0 triumph and their progression to round three. The third round draw will include teams from the second-tier Women’s Championship, with potential opponents for Gwalia featuring clubs such as Newcastle United, Sheffield United, or Bristol City.
